Как учить слова для SAT
В Reading and Writing на цифровом SAT много вопросов о значении слова в контексте: нужно выбрать слово, которое точно подходит к короткому отрывку. Для этого не нужны редкие слова из словаря. Нужны академические слова средней частотности, которые встречаются в научных и публицистических текстах: ameliorate, corroborate, ubiquitous, tenuous, recalcitrant. Именно такие слова собраны в уроках Lexilamp.
Как устроен урок
В каждом уроке около десяти слов. У каждого слова есть британская транскрипция, определение по-английски, перевод, пояснение и три примера, а озвучить слово можно в британском или американском варианте. Ниже идёт короткая история, в которой встречаются все слова урока, и около двадцати упражнений: вставить слово, найти слово сразу для трёх словосочетаний и подобрать синоним.
Как заниматься
Проходите по одному уроку в день: прочитайте слова, затем историю и сделайте упражнения. На следующий день откройте тренажёр. Он собирает вопросы из всех уроков и запоминает слова, в которых вы ошибаетесь, чтобы вы могли вернуться к ним через два-три дня. Слова, которые встречаются в нескольких уроках, помечены, и это хороший повод повторить их ещё раз.

How to learn SAT vocabulary
The Reading and Writing section of the digital SAT includes many words-in-context questions: you choose the word that fits a short passage precisely. That calls for academic words of medium frequency, not obscure dictionary entries: ameliorate, corroborate, ubiquitous, tenuous, recalcitrant. These are the words collected in the Lexilamp sets.
How a set works
Each set has about ten words. Every word comes with British IPA, an English definition, a translation, a note and three examples, and you can hear it in British or American pronunciation. Below the entries you get a short story that uses all the words of the set and about twenty exercises: fill in the word, find the one word for three phrases, and pick a synonym.
How to practise
Take one set a day: read the words, then the story, then do the exercises. The next day, open the trainer. It draws questions from all the sets and remembers the words you miss, so you can return to them two or three days later. Words that appear in several sets are marked, which is a good reason to review them once more.
Access
The first five sets are open to everyone. The rest unlock after free registration, which keeps your progress and trainer stats and lets you continue from any device.
